Horror Halloween -- Part 3: Outside the House

So, I bet you thought that prior post about dogs was not releveant to Horror Halloween. Ah, but this story is full of surprises!

We lived in a nice two bedroom, two porch house with decorated cardboard nailed to the wallsand tar paper nailed to the outside walls. The bathroom was an outhouse conveniently located just out the back door. The roof didn't leak much, but I can't say the same about the barn roof.

This post is called "Horror Halloween -- Outside the House". But we weren't outside the house. It was. Or was it a they? Or what?We were inside the house, cozy and warm despite the weather outside.

We didn't go out that Halloween. Would you, in that weather? Besides we were living in the middle of the forest. There was not another house visible in any direction, not matter which way you looked. No matter if you stood on the roof top and looked in every direction. I hope, though, that you wouldn't have stood on the rooftop. It surely would have caved in becuase the timbers holding up the roof were pretty rotten. If you did that we surely would have had to spend the next several nights in the barn while we repaired the roof.

Anyway, the point is that everywhere you looked you could see only trees, and a small lawn around the house, our castle.

So there we were, nestled in our living room by the fire while outside the weather was wild with a howling wind and a stinging rain. But we were cozy and comfortable. No hint whatsoever of the Horror Halloween to come.

Then we heard it. Outside. It sounded like a big freight train rushing towards us!

What no dogs? So that prior post WAS irrelevant!

No, not so. Look for dogs later in the story of the Horror Halloween.
