Horror Halloween -- Part 7: Trapped

Trapped! Trapped on Horror Halloween night in the middle of the forest with steep hills on 3 sides and a huge purple face on the other.

Do you know the horror of being trapped by a monstor that looks sure to kill you. I tell you from my personal experience, it is worse than a quick death. The poets talk about a thousand little deaths. But this was a thousand big deaths, but still left alive to experience further horors.

It was then that we heard the dogs shrieking.

We had two dogs. No nice little Halloween costumes for them. No they were good hillbilly dogs. A little white dog that we could see popping above the tall grass in the fields every so often as she raced here and there as she was hunting. And a big solid German Shepard that could guard any isolated hillbilly house left alone while the owners were out. If we weren't home just the look of her would keep away any but the best of our friends.

When you hear your best guard dog shriek in terror you know that you are in trouble. If you have a dog you know how much they love you and how much you love them. So when I heard them shrieking on that night of Horror Halloween I grabbed a fireplace log, one end still burning, and ran for the front door where I had seen that huge craggy purple face of horror.
